Which is better for search engine one or multiple domain names?

Still a common phenomenon that raises questions: Is it smart for search engine optimization (SEO) to have many domain names?

And if I have multiple domains what is best to do; redirect to one site, or maintain multiple sites on the different domains?

To immediately dispel a myth, having many domain names has not had nearly as much (SEO) value as it did a few years ago. There is still the image of reselling, asking a lot of money for domains or asking to purchase an offered domain.

What is this drop in value due to?

Quite simply, the keywords in a domain name hardly count for search engine rankings anymore. Where a few years ago keywords (in both domain name and in the HTML (code of a website) were still highly valued, there has been a change. After all, you could (for relatively high indexing) very easily put a large number of keywords in your code and choose a domain name, while the content of your website could contain very different content. And what does a search engine like Google benefit from? That a web searcher gets the information most relevant to him after a search, in other words quality content.

The introduction of Google's Panda (a sort of filter to exclude low-quality content from search results), led to a drop in the value of keywords related to SEO and actually more focus on serving the searcher well. After all, websites that continue to provide solid content remain on the safe side of the filter.

So where is the (SEO) value in it when I have multiple domains?

Where the confusion arises for many regarding return on investment of many domain names is the Coolblue example. Coolblue (the electronics web store) has an unprecedented and original online strategy and is known for the amount of domain names (there is a separate domain name for each product). So where does the success of this strategy lie? Exactly what it is all about: quality, unique content. Coolblue deploys the large number of domain names with a solid content marketing strategy: Each product is considered unique and is highlighted through advice, video explanations, reviews, extensive descriptions, explanation of questions, and choice help.

Conclusion

  • Choose a domain name that best represents your business, product or service and is easy to remember.
  • Discouraged: Multiple pages or domains with the same or very similar content
  • With the same (or very similar) content on multiple domains, there is a chance that it will not be indexed.
  • Be focused on your visitor (how are you helping them? What problem are you solving?), not just SEO.
  • Use multiple domains only when you offer truly distinctive products and unique, high-quality content per domain.
