Laméco at SymfonyCon 2023

Also in 2023, Laméco was at SymfonyCon. The conference about one of our favorite frameworks Symfony.

Brussels was this year's host city for SymfonyCon 2023, an event dedicated to the latest developments in Symfony. The Square convention center provided a beautiful setting for this technological gathering.

Laméco's participation: Demi, Jeroen and Dary

On behalf of Laméco, Demi, Jeroen and Dary were there. Although. Thanks to the NS we were almost not there this year 🚂. The trains between Eindhoven and Breda were not available on our departure day. So then you grab a Taxi to a shared car, drive to Breda and grab a Taxi to the station there. All in all, you then arrive at your hotel in Brussels just in time with the last train.

The very first learning point: the extremely reliable train connections in the Netherlands.

Deepening from DevOps to AI

The conference offered a wide range of topics, from DevOps to testing. There were also several sessions on UX tools and technologies. And of course, a discussion on the role of Chat GPT and AI in the technology landscape could not be missed here either. November this year saw the launch of Symfony 7, this also provided new opportunities and topics to start talking about!

Domain Driven Design

An interesting theme is "Domain Driven Design. This concept emphasizes the importance of focusing on the domain in which the software is used. For example, adopting the user's terminology becomes crucial. In short, the idea is to adopt the user's language and understand the domain. Among other things, this leads to better communication. For example, one method is to start talking to recruiters instead of communications departments when developing a job platform.

DDD helps to ensure that functionalities are fully focused on the direct user so that they really are valuable additions. This leads to fewer unnecessary functionalities.

Multi-Tenant Applications

Another topic covered was multi-tenant applications. These are applications that involve different user groups, such as subscribers or businesses. Ideally, you want to keep that within a single codebase. The speakers addressed the challenges of deploying a single codebase, handling data securely, complying with privacy regulations and maintaining such systems.

Conclusion:

During SymfonyCon 2023, we definitely learned things. What we also saw is that we are encountering fewer and fewer parts that are really new to us because we have secured R&D throughout the organization for a number of years now and we are continuously improving with this. That said, it's a great event that we as Symfony - forerunners and Symfony agency want to be a part of.
